And now a brief history of Eudonia, as chronicled by Sir Bodsworth Bartleby, rector of Kensington College, St. Tristan's University, as well as Ulbert, a monk in the monastery of St. Baldwin of Arete, and his father, Haeloc, an inventor in the service of the queen.

• overpopulation leads to famine
• high unemployment, low wages

• Haeloc loses his wife to the plague and begins work on a machine to cure it

• motion pictures become popular everywhere, including Eudonia
• Screenland in Imperium becomes the movie capital of the world
• hundreds of prospective starlets leave Eudonia for Screenland
• through them, Imperium learns of Eudonia's health machine
• Imperium sends a delegation to Eudonia to negotiate for their technology
• Eudonia requires payment through obedience to their laws
• Eudonia sends emissaries to help Imperium transition to the laws

• the government kills off the Eudonian emissaries
• commandeers an airship to attack Eudonia and take their technology by force
• the new airship Titan sets sail on its maiden voyage loaded with soldiers
