One of the first steps, they say, to building your reader tribe is to create a reader persona to describe your typical reader. Actually, I have no idea what my typical reader would be like, so I'll take some guesses based on what's in my books and who'd be interested in those things.

My typical reader would probably be:

● from the USA, possibly from the NE or California
● from Canada too; they seem pretty liberal
● female between 15 and 60 years old
● college educated
● single or married with two kids or less

My typical reader probably:

● votes independent in most elections
● spends a lot of time reading
● prefers third person POV
● loves the work of Emily St. John Mandel, Donna Tartt or Ottessa Moshfegh
● cares about the environment
● is an INFP, INTP, ISFP, ISTP, ISFJ or INFJ on the Myers-Briggs scale

My typical reader likely:

● grew up watching cartoons and reading classics
● spends at least a couple hours online every day
● got Twitter and Facebook in 2006 but quit using them ages ago
● has Instagram, Pinterest, Goodreads, TikTok or Reddit‎ accounts
● likes dreampop, new age or industrial music

My typical reader probably believes:

● in egalitarianism
● in God but not the Bible, or is an atheist or agnostic
● overpopulation causes or exacerbates the world's problems
● AI will put millions out of work, but that it can't be stopped
● AI should be accommodated with a reduction in the birthrate
● most people are good, but that power corrupts
● that a well-adjusted person has no desire to either dominate or to be dominated

Now honestly, is there anyone on the entire planet like that? Even I am not like that. ¯\_(ﭢ)_/¯
