Shanique's an authority on ancient Roman documents, and small wonder—she's sure she was there when they were written two thousand years ago.
Back then she was a Vestal Virgin, falsely accused of impurity and buried alive according to the ancient laws. Her lover was Trebius, the son of a successful merchant, who was killed in 79 CE when Vesuvius erupted.
But did he really die? Or has he come back to reclaim the love he lost thousands of years ago? Sometimes love is too powerful to end with death...
● Modern day:
Shanique Mosley, an archaeologist specializing in ancient Rome
Gabriele Bianchi, an Italian businessman who funded Dr. Fakhri's research
Rashad Fakhri, an Egyptian archaeologist specializing in artifacts at Stabiae
Donatella Benedetti, curator of a museum of ancient Roman statuary
● Ancient Rome:
Trebius, only son of a wealthy merchant
Livia, friend and neighbor of Trebius
Leander, slave and friend of Trebius
Marcus, father of Trebius
Marcia, mother of Trebius
Quintus, father of Livia
Julia, mother of Livia
the Pontifex Maximus, highest priest in Rome and overseer of the Vestals
Perpennia, the Vestalis Maxima, chief Vestal in the temple of Vesta
Teia, a Vestal and friend to Livia
Drusilla, a slave in the Atrium Vestae who spies for the pontifex
