akjeDo reader magnets work? I only know they don't work for me. Whenever a writer offers me a magnet, I give them my email addy so I can download the magnet. Inevitably they later send me newsletters or other stuff related to their books, which of course I have absolutely no interest in ─ I just wanted the magnet. So either I unsubscribe, or everything they send me goes into my spam folder. If they're particularly aggressive, I create a filter so that everything from their address goes directly into the trash.
What good is it to have a massive database of email addresses from potential readers who aren't even looking at your emails or newsletters?
I'd say it's better to ask for addresses solely from those who are already interested in your books. Don't offer them anything in return except a notification of when your next book is coming out. That way they're less likely to delete your emails than if you offer them some sort of bribe. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
