I think I've just stumbled upon another reason why I'm having so much trouble getting through my TBR. I'm in the saggy middle of what was originally a good book, but the writer took too much of the wrong advice to heart, so it's become boring. She keeps shoveling questions and mysteries into each chapter hoping to keep the reader hooked to find the answers, except the answers...never come. (♯^.^ღ)
Tbh I've seen this a lot lately. The writers pile on the mysteries until the end, when there's a great big massive reveal at the climax...except that you've forgotten all those questions by then. Why do the editors at Hachette and Penguin think the readers are going to hold those questions at the front of their brains while they read? I've usually forgotten them by the end of the next chapter. These people need to introduce one mystery in a chapter, and then answer it in the next chapter. There's no way I'm going to remember all these stupid questions until the end of the book. (-᷅_-᷄๑)
