Time for another bout with the bards! This time it's:

Raymond St. Elmo, formerly of WriteOn and Authonomy, and now at Wattpad.

Raymond St. Elmo is a programmer of artificial intelligences and virtual realities, who has no time for literary fabrications of fictitious characters and world-building. And yes, that was meant to be ironic.

A degree in Spanish Literature gave him a love of Magic Realism. Programming gave him a job. The job introduced him to artifical intelligence and virtual realities; as close to magic as reality is likely to get outside the covers of a book. And yes, that was meant to be cynical.

He is the author of several first-person comic accounts of strange quests for mysterious manuscripts and mysterious girls in cloaks whose face appears SUDDENLY IN THE FLASH OF LIGHTNING. And yes, that was meant to be dramatic.

His latest project is the Quest of the Five Clans series, which I assume will eventually have five books in all. Currently there are three available.

Centuries ago a mysterious family of mad geniuses split into five clans; feuding, hiding, hoarding their secrets of fighting and art, magic and science. Now at the dawn of the mechanical 19th century, only the five clans united can hold back the blood-red tide of industrial apocalypse.

Unless they dive into it laughing. I did say mad.

Rayne Gray is a cheerful, charitable bear of a man. Philosophical about his life of violence, optimistic about the dawning 19th century. A man watching for daggers in the dark, he still holds a candle for others. Alas, the wheel of fortune shifts and he is on his own, three steps from madness, two steps from arrest, one step from death. This dance puts Rayne on the path to the Family, a mad collection of clans more deadly than any alley of assassins. And more mad than a battle in Bedlam.

But there was never a man better at keeping alive and sane than Rayne Gray.

Rayne is a philosophical sort; often violent, always cheerful. Fresh from death and betrayal, he and his vampiric bride honeymoon in their wedding-present castle. Haunted by ghosts, not to mention mad in-laws knocking on the damned castle door. But the delights of the wedding bed and the growing love for his new wife can not keep Gray from recalling his duty. He must return South, to strike back against his betrayers before they betray the promise of an entire age.
