Finally finished the book today, so it takes me almost a year to produce a first draft. Started it in January, and there are less than two weeks left in the year.
Only 66,100 words, though. Doesn't sound like enough for historical fiction. Song of Achilles was like 95k or so, and this is the same kind of vibe, except for the Greek mythology. But they say readers want shorter books these days, so I don't know. I can't really add anything else to it without making the story convoluted. I feel like more than one or two subplots gets confusing.
Anyway, I'm going to start the second book in January and not worry about the first one until it's completed. Maybe shorter books for a series is better...?
