I honestly don’t understand writers who insist they have to write in first person in order to have immediacy or intimacy. A good writer can make third person POV every bit as intimate as first person using free indirect speech and what many writers call third person intimate, where the narrator shares the feelings of the character. ¯\_(ﭢ)_/¯
