One of the most useful suggestions for marketing I've heard lately is from either Jane Friedman or Joanna Penn, I think, about linking your work to an event. For instance, December 30 will be the 114th anniversary of the Iroquois Theater Fire in Chicago, which serves as the backdrop for my historical romance novel, Adeline. Writer Hannah Marie Kilpatrick likewise could link her mystery novel Operation Titanic to April 15, 2018, the 106th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic.

"Well, it's easy for you since you write historical fiction," you say. Yes, but it can work even if you don't. For instance, while my first book is a contemporary crime thriller, the main theme is overpopulation and how it directly creates homelessness, among other environmental, social and economic problems. This December 9th there's going to be a Sleep in the Park event where some 9000 people are expected to sleep outside in order to draw attention to homelessness.

So what are the themes of your books? There are events going on around the world that could be connected to almost any theme in literature today. Find one and build a marketing campaign around it. Good luck! (っ^▿^)۶ ٩(˘◡˘ )
