Been pondering late stage capitalism lately. But does America even have capitalism anymore? Under capitalism, companies compete by improving their products and services while lowering costs to remain competitive. What we have in America now is a handful of multinationals buying up all their competition so the consumers have no choice but to purchase from them─there is no competition anymore. We just have a collection of monopolies. Products and services degrade as a result, while prices increase for the consumer so the executives can make a larger profit for themselves.

We need to make it illegal for any entity to own more than one business or company. These corporations shouldn't be allowed to diversify the way they do. The consumer suffers because of it. If only we had a government of the people, by the people and for the people, that looks out for the flipping people... (ง︡'-'︠)ง

In regards to the murder of Renée Good by an ICE agent yesterday, it's not at all surprising to me that the arguments MAGAts keep using online sound exactly the same as the arguments their ancestors used to justify lynchings in the Old South: "If the suspect wasn't guilty of anything, he wouldn't have tried to flee from a mob of perfectly harmless white men!" yada yada.

Why do so many people think there's a birth dearth? I'm not talking about these YouTubers; I'm talking about the natalists who prompted the videos in the first place. The pro-natalists seem to think the earth once had a zillion people which has now been reduced to 8 billion. So very wrong. The number right now is the highest in history. Never before in the 4½ billion years of Earth's existence have there been as many people on the globe as there are right now, this very second. The population is always growing; it never decreases significantly for any length of time, even when there's a major pandemic.

Now the talk is about how to unify Republicans and Democrats, as if that's a problem.

Nope.

Never was. Conservatives and liberals will always have their differences, but that's not a problem. There are plenty of marriages out there to prove it. James Carville/Mary Matalin and Joe Scarborough/Mika Brzezinski jump to mind. What we have today is something quite different.

On one side we have Republicans, Democrats and Independents. On the other side we have MAGA.

For those who didn't get the memo, MAGA is a hate group.

A hate group.

A misogynistic, white supremacist, "Christian" nationalist, anti-democratic hate group. They are un-American. They just don't realize it.

Yet.

Normalizing MAGA would be like the Germans saying, "We need to make peace with the Nazis and reunify Germany!"

Um, no. No, we don't.

What needs to happen is this: the Nazis need to cease to exist; they are evil. There is no benefit to humanity in normalizing evil. After the war, the Nazis who weren't executed for their crimes were rehabilitated. Deprogrammed.

And that's exactly what needs to happen with MAGA.

The finger pointing's begun, and everyone's blaming the economy for Chump's win. But Trump has no plan for the economy; the only economic plan he's mentioned is tariffs, which will raise costs on all imported goods. Kamala's economic policy was endorsed by 23 Nobel prize-winning economists and The Economist; while the Wall Street Journal, owned by Rupert Murdoch, said her economic plan was superior to Trump's. So it's not the economy, stupid.

Nope, the blame is going everywhere but where it belongs ─ on the voters. Over the past 40 years that Trump's been in the public eye, he's proven himself to be an immature little boy in the body of an old coot, with all the impulse control of a ten-year-old ─ no insult intended to ten-year-olds. He's a white supremacist, a misogynist, a rapist, a convicted felon, guilty of treason (remember the coup?), and yet the majority of uneducated clodpoles voted for him anyhow. Argh.

So now we're all trapped in that Twilight Zone episode where Bill Mumy is a little boy with unfettered powers who rules the town with an iron fist. ヽ(ﾟДﾟ)ﾉ

If the democrats ever do regain control of the government, there's a number of things they need to do. Somewhere near the top of the list is to pass legislation requiring that all podcasters and other alternate news sources based in America conform to FCC regulations regarding journalistic integrity and standards, making it illegal for any of these outlets to spread conspiracy theories and misinformation ever again.

Number two is to fix the supreme court and overturn that idiotic immunity ruling. There's no excuse for a US president to commit a crime in the performance of his duty.

It goes without saying that we need to eliminate the electoral college.

We need to introduce legislation preventing anyone guilty of treason from running for office.

We need to pass legislation placing all of the financial burden of book bans entirely on the banners. Right now they're blowing our tax dollars on this foolishness, and that's not what our tax money was allocated for. If they want to ban books, they should have to pay for it out of their own pockets. Let's see how many books they ban then.

To prevent the creation of any more illiterate voters, we need to bring American schools up to the level of Sweden, Denmark and Japan. American students should not be graduating unable to read. As for their critical thinking skills...sheesh.

And we need to make it illegal for Congress to award themselves pay raises, or else make it legal for every other American worker to award themselves pay raises whenever they feel like it.

So there's been yet another school shooting, this time in Georgia, and Vance says shootings are just a fact of life. Reality begs to differ with him. Funny, but when I was growing up there were no school shootings. There was the very distant memory of that nut in the tower at the University of Texas, but strangely no one remembers that one anymore since there have been so many others lately.

Like everyone else lately, I'm scrambling to figure out what a tradwife is thanks to Vance. I remember this now. It has a new name, but it's the same old oppressed fundie wife we've seen so many times before: a victim of Biblical gender roles and the rejection of the Proverbs 31 woman who buys her own vineyards, works outside the home and employs servants. I wrote a book on these pathetic fembots once, but no one liked what I had to say. I have some thoughts...

The answer, though, doesn't matter. The author never bothers to ask the real question: will employers care that humans are superior if they can make more money by replacing those superior humans with inferior A.I.?

And the long-term impact will be when the web becomes filled with content that have similar distributions, which will in turn be used to train the next generation of language models.
