Only 32 more days until WriteOn folds. (╥︣﹏᷅╥) (╯︵╰,)

Way bad for me since WriteOn is one of the few writing comms that works with dialup. Grrrrr. I loved its low-tech interface. The only flaw, really, besides the unusually high influx of right wing "Christian" fundamentalists, is its emphasis on lightweight commercial, pulp, and fan fiction. For a long time I've been looking for a similar community that focuses solely on literary fiction, but no soap. (ノД`)ヽ (ノД`゚)゚。

Everyone has his own theory for why it's closing, but I suspect one of the contributing factors is the surprising number of writers there who've announced they have publishing deals. Surprising because the quality of writing there rivals Wattpad, Tablo, or any other writing site.

It's bad. Really bad. (-᷅_-᷄๑)

Worse than mine, even, and that's seriously saying something. Not all of it, of course; Raymond St. Elmo posted his work there. There are a handful of others who write professional grade, or could with a little workshopping. But I've been shocked at the number of mediocre writers who've announced they've found a publisher. I suspect Amazon has taken a look at their work and consider it unpublishable, but then, 50 Shades and Twilight are unpublishable, yet those books have made a fortune.

Amazon certainly isn't in the business of providing a story lab for its competitors, so I suspect they're focusing on Kindle Scout since that'll at least produce nothing but authors for its own stable. Too bad for me, since Kindle Scout accepts only commercial, pulp, and fan fiction. (ノ_<、)ヾ(´▽`)

About Me

Like everyone else on the planet, I'm a self-published writer. My latest project is the fictional biography of four-year-old Dorothy / Dorcas Good, who was traumatized by accusations of witchcraft during the Salem witch trials.
